South Bruce announces phase one of project to retain medical centre and services in Teeswater
Teeswater, ON, November 26, 2020 – The Municipality of South Bruce Council has approved the purchase of the current office of Dr. Regina Mbuva, located at 2 Janet Street South, Teeswater, as the first step in continuing to retain the services of a medical doctor in the community of Teeswater.
“It is very important that the residents of Teeswater and surrounding area continue to have access to a medical doctor close to home,” said Robert Buckle, Mayor, Municipality of South Bruce. “The Municipality of South Bruce Council, along with the Teeswater Medical Centre Development Steering Committee, are pleased to take this step forward in our plan to ensure there continues to be a medical clinic in Teeswater for many years to come.”
The announcement follows a Council meeting on November 24, 2020, during which a By-law to authorize the execution of an Agreement of Purchase and Sale for the purchase of 2 Janet Street South, Teeswater, was tabled and supported by Council. The acquisition of the noted property is the first phase of a multi-step project and is intended to provide a solution while the Steering Committee continues to explore opportunities for a future location to host a new medical clinic. Upcoming phases of the project will involve the identification of a site for an accessible medical clinic that could accommodate additional health professionals.
“Today’s announcement serves as a positive signal to both current and potential future residents that Council is committed to supporting plans to keep this important service in our community,” said Paul Cronin, Co-Chair, Teeswater Medical Centre Development Steering Committee. “Our Committee looks forward to continuing to work with Council to move this initiative forward.”
Community members are encouraged to watch the Municipal website and the Teeswater Community Calendar for further updates regarding the medical centre facility project.
