Teeswater, ON – On Wednesday January 16, 2019, the Hon. Lisa Thompson, MPP stopped in at the Teeswater-Culross Community Centre to “drop the puck” at the hockey game between the South Bruce Blades and the Hanover Falcons. MPP Thompson, along with Loretta Dunn from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), formally congratulated Mayor Buckle and the Municipality of South Bruce on the impact that a $45,000 Capital grant awarded by OTF in early 2018 will have in the long-term for the community.

“I can tell you from personal experience that this facility is well used by the community,” said Huron-Bruce MPP Thompson. “It is important to address issues before they become too big of a problem or become too expensive. I am glad to see that Ontario Trillium Foundation grant money was put to excellent use and will ensure the Centre will continue to be used for many years to come.”

The Centre is a popular spot for many recreational activities for people of all ages, but in recent times, numerous leaks in the aging roof were beginning to present challenges.  The Municipality identified the roof over the ice surface as the most urgent area of need and submitted a capital grant application to OTF for assistance with the repairs.

“The community relies on this facility and the OTF grant has helped to make the needed renovations possible,” said Mayor Bob Buckle. “This investment by the Ontario Trillium Foundation to upgrade the roof was good news for many in our community. Our arena roof is now leak free and will serve our community better for many years to come.”

The Municipality of South Bruce Recreation Department is dedicated to enhancing recreational opportunities in the Municipality through safe and affordable recreation and leisure programs to develop personal health, human development and strong families.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $120 million to some 700 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
