Hometown Pizza is More Than Just Great Pizza!

Smokin’ Cowboy and the Walking Taco are only a few of the speciality pizzas, subs and salads enjoyed at Hometown Pizza in Teeswater on Tuesday September 4th at the South Bruce Tourism Meeting.  There was definitely no shortage of food and all members left the meeting with full bellies and smiles on their faces and compliments heard like “I think that is the best pizza I have ever had”.

Owners Kelly Hemmerle and Christa Glazier started on a new adventure only 5 weeks ago by purchasing Hometown Pizza on main street Teeswater! Christa was born and raised in Teeswater and Kelly originally was from the Kitchener/Waterloo area and they currently reside in Teeswater with their 4 daughters.

Since taking ownership 5 weeks ago, Kelly & Christa have made a lot of changes to the menu.  Their niche is their speciality pizzas, but do still offer the more familiar kinds as well, such as pepperoni and Hawaiian.  New to the menu is a variety of subs and salads that have been a huge hit.  In the fall, they intend to add wraps and soups as options as well.  The demand for the speciality pizza has been surreal.  They made reference to the Friday they added the Montreal Smoke Meat pizza to the menu, they were sold out by the end of the day and had to run for more supplies to meet the demand! They even had to purchase a second prep station to be more efficient!  They also made a note the size of their pizzas are generous.  In comparison to other pizza places, Hometown’s single slice of pizza is actually 2 slices and their small is actually a medium etc.

They were able to keep on all of the existing staff and currently have 6 employees including themselves.  Kelly & Christa’s goal for Hometown Pizza is not to compete with other businesses in town, but rather to compliment it and add options that are not currently available, such as slushies. Their current hours are: Tues-Thurs 11am-8pm; Fri-Sat 11am-10pm; Sun 4pm-8pm and closed Mondays.  When they first initially started, it was primary all take-out but they are starting to see a shift of people starting to eat in as well.

They are actively looking into various school food contracts, minor hockey fundraisers and other options that may be available to them to help those in the community and who knows with the support they have received may even consider a second location down the road!

Kelly stated that “the support that they have received from the community has been tremendous”.  They want your feedback, both the good and the bad so that they can serve you better and continue to improve.

There was certainly no shortage of customers that were coming and going with their hands full of delicious food during our meeting, which is a great to see for South Bruce!  The tourism committee would like to thank Kelly and Christa for taking time out of their extremely busy schedules to cook for us and to tell us all about their new adventure!

If you haven’t been to Hometown Pizza in downtown Teeswater, you don’t know what you are missing!  We will definitely be back!
