THE RENOVATION HAS BEGUN!
The town of Mildmay is a pleasant, family-oriented and growing community known for their unwavering sense of community pride.
The Mildmay Carrick Recreation Complex (MCRC) serves as the hub of our community and is the primary destination for all community events. It’s a place we gather for fellowship and fun, for our children to thrive, and lead active healthy lifestyles.
The current MCRC was built in 1978 and includes an arena, community hall, senior centre and fitness centre. Over the years, the MCRC has served the community well, but is in need of repairs and upgrades to make it more accessible, convenient and efficient. A group of dedicated community leaders and volunteers has formed to lead a renovation project to address the current deficiencies, future needs and ensure the facility can remain sustainable and cherished by present and future generations.
The Mildmay Carrick Recreation Complex will continue to be a place to promote fitness, fun, health and well being for all. The renovated complex will contain, among other elements, the following:
- An expanded, accessible, front entrance/lobby
- Second level heated viewing area
- An elevator to the second level
- Barrier-free washroom on both levels
- Main level viewing area to ice surface
- Increased insulation ratings in exterior walls and roof
The success of this project will be dependent upon receiving financial assistance from municipal, provincial and federal levels of government. Of equal importance is the requirement for significant contributions from the residents of Mildmay and surrounding areas.
It is anticipated that this fundraising campaign will be required to raise a significant portion of this total cost. The campaign received a kick start with a generous donation of $124,000 from the Mildmay Homecoming Committee from money raised from the Mildmay Carrick reunion celebration held in 2013. The Committee will begin the fundraising with a public Fundraising raffle sponsored by the Mildmay Rotary Club. The committee hosted a New Years Eve Dance Dec. 31, 2016 and an Irish Pub Night on March 17th with proceeds towards the project.
Members of the 2013 Mildmay-Carrick Homecoming Committee presented a cheque in the amount of $124,000 to the Mildmay-Carrick Recreation Complex Lobby Renovation Committee. The funds were raised at the Homecoming and designated for the renovation project.
Your valuable gift, large or small will make a difference.
We ask for your help and support in ensuring the success of this project for our community. If you’re interested donating or joining the dedicated volunteers on the fundraising committee, please contact Brian Durrer at 519-901-0707.
Update August 2017- The renovation is underway! The project is expected to finish November 2017. The project contractor is committed to providing the ice surface and dressing room corridor for users when the ice goes in mid October.
We ask all users to please proceed with caution when entering and exiting the facility due to the on-going construction. THANK YOU for your patience while we work to improve our infrastructure.
The fundraising campaign has received many generous donations from local service clubs, businesses and residents, but we need YOUR help to raise the remaining funds necessary to complete the project.
Please consider a donation today and help us reach our goal.
